2008 Improvisational Theater Workshops
Our first Story Theater Intensive and second annual Teachers Workshop intend to provide energy and inspiration for  classroom and stage. Both workshops are dedicated to the practice of Viola Spolin's work (Improvisation for the Theater, Northwestern University Press). Actors, theater students, teachers and other players are invited.

The late Paul Sills, whose mother is the late Viola Spolin, was active in improvisational theater all his life. He originated The Second City and Story Theater, was co-founder of Compass, The Game Theater, Sills & Co. and the
New Actors Workshop in Manhattan. Paul Sills’ Story Theater, Four Shows, is published by Applause Books.

Wisconsin Theater Game Center's workshops in Door County are scheduled on the following dates:

July 27 - August 2, 2008
Story Theater with Carol and Neva Sills

Story Theater allows a group to transform stories or literature into onstage contemporary performance. The approach emphasizes communication, both verbal and nonverbal, through the Spolin theater games Sills employs when he introduces, casts and directs
his choice of material. The intensive will include the group adaptation of a story during a rehearsal process that leads to performance. This experience, while spontaneously involving all members of group, can transfer to many other curriculum areas, bringing delight and satisfaction back into learning. Carol and Neva Sills will coach. Tuition is $500.

August 3 - August 9, 2008
Teachers Workshop... with Bob Moyer and Max Schafer

Players in this workshop especially intended for teachers are offered an immersion in ideas, strategies and resources through a comprehensive sampling of Viola Spolin's theater games. Bob and Max are seasoned by a lifetime of training with both Spolin and Sills. Bob Moyer was for many years, story theater and improvisational theater High School Drama Program Director at North Carolina High School of the Arts. Max Schafer, currently teaching in a California distinguished charter school, is author of Spolin’s software version of Theater Games for the Classroom, NorthwesternUniversity Press. Tuition is $600;  $550 for alumni.
